Vale - Meme McDonald

It is with great sadness that we acknowledge the passing of Meme McDonald, the founding Artistic Director of the Mountain to Mouth journey, who died on Saturday 23rd December 2017.
Meme has worked with the City of Greater Geelong with great vision and breath-taking creativity as the Artistic Director for the very first pilot M~M in 2009 and then the 2014 and 2016 iterations and other M~M projects. 
Meme was renowned nationally and internationally for her extraordinary work as an epic outdoor arts director but she is also an acclaimed author who has won many awards as a writer.
We will miss her terribly as will many members of our arts community who have had the opportunity to further their own artistic concepts and practice solely due to Meme’s generosity, skill and impeccable artistic vision.

In 2007, Meme was engaged as Artistic Director of Connecting Identities to envisage the concept for a three year arts project that could address the issue of identity in a rapidly changing post-industrial Geelong. In consultation with traditional owners and Arts & Culture Department, Meme proposed Mountain to Mouth as an extreme arts walk creating a contemporary songline across Geelong. Meme directed the pilot, Mouth to Mountain, in 2009, and subsequently the multi-award winning M~M2014 and M~M2016.
