Artist: Jennifer McElwee

Jennifer McElwee uses many disciplines to explore her interest in space, place and landscape. Researching the topography, history and culture of the suburban landscape where she lives, provides her with the background for conceptual and philosophic understanding.

This form of practice led research develops layered concepts engaging new ways of thinking often at a tangent to the original ideas. Jennifer translates this information into artwork through many methods that include drawing, painting, sculpture, photography/film and installation.

Jennifer has joined the studio at Art Is… Gallery in Geelong after completing a Bachelor of Creative Arts (Visual Arts). In an Honours year she explored how people view and perceive landscape using Eugene von Guérard’s painting View of Geelong, 1856 and Montpellier Park to develop these concepts.
