Expressions of Interest are called for 12 artwork commissions for M~M2018, to be held on 4 and 5 May 2018.
Mountain to Mouth (M~M) is Geelong’s multi-award winning extreme arts walk – an 80 kilometre biennial journey of discovery held over two days. M~M begins at the You Yangs mountain range, crosses Geelong’s industrial heartland at nightfall and arrives in the city centre to collide with Geelong After Dark, a night of extreme and unexpected arts. In the tradition of Wadawurrung traditional owners, M~M creates a contemporary songline across the Geelong and Queenscliffe regions.
The route will feature 12 ephemeral Walking Circle artworks by an individual or collaboration of artists. These artworks express the unique nature of each locality and community. The work can be of any medium or cross-artform collaboration (visual, sound, landscape, sculptural, performance, dance, interactive, new media, etc). Each work in some aspect will be ‘extreme art’.
Priority will be given to local or regional artists who are established or emerging professionals. Artists are commissioned for the works, the details of which are negotiated with the successful applicants.
The M~M2018 Artistic Director, Margie Mackay, is a nationally recognised artist, with considerable experience in delivering innovative and memorable large-scale artistic community events.
SUBMISSION DETAILS
Please submit: your CV; up to 10 photographs of previous work; preferred medium; and an idea of possible themes for one (or more) of the 12 Walking Circles. The theme for M~M2018 is Earth – considered for all its meanings and dynamic properties. Refer to this website.
