Gathering of the Elders is the starting point for Mountain to Mouth 2018. This Ceremony pays respect to the land upon which we walk, to Wadawurrung Elders past and present, and to all our ancestors. The Gathering of the Elders signifies that which sustains us, both as we walk from the mountain to the river mouth and also throughout our daily lives. Central to this ceremony is the unveiling of Canoe, the ephemeral lead artwork, which leads walkers along the 80km journey of the contemporary Songline.

For this ceremony, we stand in silence, taking time to acknowledge the land, where we come from and where we will travel to from here.

Dance Circle

Dance Circle, the first Walking Circle is a contemporary ceremonial ground in sand, decorated with patterns in ochre.

Esther Konings-Oakes completed her Masters of Art in Public Spaces at RMIT University. She has been an M~M District Co-ordinator since 2014 and was the Walking Circle Artist for Station 4 Moorpanyal Park that year.
