Walking this Land: explore the Songline Stations Art
As you know, Mountain to Mouth is an 80km extreme arts walk.
The 2018 theme, Earth, is reflected in all art installations along the walk.
Each of the Songline Stations represent the local community in which the Stations are located.
You Yangs Big Rock
The Gathering of the Elders signals the beginning of Mountain to Mouth and the unveiling the ephemeral lead sculpture, Canoe, created by US based artist Leslie Pearson, in collaboration with Ocean Grove based artist Kerrie Bedson
Tammy Gilson will create the Dance Circle as part of the Gathering of the Elders. Esther Konings-Oakes has created the ceremonial gateways for the You Yangs Songline Station
Lara RSL
At the Lara RSL, artist Emma Anna is creating Sol Yantra a colourful mandala made from the bounties of harvest.
Limeburners Lagoon
Limeburners Lagoon will feature Earthship, by artists Ingrid Petterson and Lance Youston, positioned at the significant conservation reserve, Ramsar Wetlands.
Moorpanyal Park
Artist Jacinta Leitch will create her ode to the middens of Indigenous Australia at the site of a significant area to the local Wathaurong.
Johnstone Park
Canoe will enter into Central Geelong and intersect with Geelong After Dark, a night of edgy arts in unexpected places. The second Ceremony, Gathering of the City, will herald the end of the first day. Join in as choirs and dancers welcome Canoe into the heart of Geelong.
Barwon River Rowing Precinct
With the climate of earth changing, artist Jennifer McElwee is creating art to reflect the warming of the oceans and the link this has to Geelong and the Barwon River.
Christie’s Road Leopold
At Christie’s Road Leopold, artist Kaz McGlynn is working with the local community to create Borron Birds as a symbol of freedom, loyalty and friendship
Drysdale Railway Heritage Station
Songs from the Earth will echo around the area of the Drysdale Railway Station. Fiona Phillips will create a sound piece that reflects the heritage of Drysdale, the humble potato.
Swan Bay Marine and Freshwater Discovery Centre
Artist Dan Goronsky will re-create her piece The Caretaker is in – The Grounding. Interactive and site responsive, this piece investigates the role of intimacy and care in public spaces.
Point Lonsdale Village
Beth Arnold has developed a site-specific project developed for Point Lonsdale village, a meditation where the land meets the sea.
Ocean Grove Surf Lifesaving Club
Proud locals with a deep history of community service, Ocean Grove will be the site of artist Anamaria Gomez Correal’s Blue Gold an ephemeral installation of hanging ice drops, gradually melting into the ocean at Ocean Grove
Barwon Heads Foreshore
Canoe will arrive at the Barwon Heads foreshore, where it will be set alight, as part of Gathering of the Elements, before being sent out to the sea from the mouth of the Barwon River.
