Want to be a M~M2016 Walking Circle Artist?

Expressions of Interest for now being called for 12 commissions for M~M2016: Geelong’s multi-award winning Extreme Arts Walk.

An 80km journey over 12 stages, M~M takes participants by foot from the bush setting of the You Yangs mountain range. Reaching Geelong’s industrial north by nightfall, walkers then continue into the city centre, to interact with Geelong After Dark, central Geelong’s pop up night of arts. The next day, M~M resumes from dawn, with walkers traversing the Barwon River and the Bellarine Peninsula to ultimately experience a spectacular ceremony at sunset on the mouth of the Barwon River. In the tradition of Wadawurrung, M~M creates a contemporary songline across the Geelong and Queenscliffe regions.

The route is punctuated with edgy artworks commissioned for M~M, bringing people together through shared experiences of extreme arts that celebrate our land. The route will feature 12 ephemeral Walking Circle artworks by an individual or collaboration of artists. These artworks express the unique nature of each locality and community. The work can be of any medium or cross-artform collaboration (visual, sound, landscape, sculptural, performance, dance, interactive, new media, etc). Each work in some aspect will be 'extreme art'.

Priority will be given to local or regional artists who are established or emerging professionals. Artists are commissioned for the works, the details of which are negotiated with the successful applicants. There is a commission fee of $1,500 available to create each Walking Circle artwork. This fee includes materials.

Submission Details:

Please submit a CV, up to 10 photographs of previous work; preferred medium and an idea of possible themes for one (or more) of the 12 Walking Circles. Expressions of Interest close COB Friday 30 October 2015.
