We Don’t Need Wings To Fly

Artist's sketch

We Don’t Need Wings To Fly is the fifth walking circle installation situated at Steampacket Gardens where Mountain to Mouth contemporary songline collides with Geelong After Dark. Referencing the 12 stations of the extreme arts walk, this installation, by artists Jacinta Leitch and Dare Tekin, embodies the concept of AIR through large, ambiguous forms. These frond-like kinetic structures are arranged in a circular pattern, creating a space for ritual and meditation, while paying homage to the land and its ancestors and offering possibilities for renewal and growth. The act of walking among these sculptural forms is both visual and experiential, creating a space for reflection on the journey and the destination.
