You Yangs to Lara

Distance: 11.52Km
Times: 1:30pm - 3:50pm (2hr 20min)

The paths and the terrain vary significantly along the first stage.

The walk starts after the Gathering of the Elders ceremony at Big Rock waterhole in the You Yangs Regional Park, a significant indigenous site.  Walkers head down the road with a steep incline,  then along a bush path onto Flinders Avenue, passing by farmscapes before cutting through Serendip Sanctuary where the birds, emus and roos are abundant.

The path becomes undulating, both sealed and gravel, including a tree lined gully and the renowned Hoffman Path with flowering natives and a lagoon where a Bunyip probably lives. The final part of this walk travels along a new footpath towards the historic Lara RSL where you can smell the sausages and beer. This stage is a long one but the changing landscape is wonderful and you can turn around at any time as see the mighty hills of the You Yangs and marvel at just how far you have come.
